playing in the sand

We spent the weekend at the Matheson's parent's house in Seaside, Oregon. We absolutely LOVE to vacation there. It is a nice big house with beachfront -- you can hear the ocean from our favorite little bedroom. It was the third annual Team Orange weekend (this is papa's MBA group). We extended our stay so we could have a day alone with the Matheson clan because we just love spending time with them. You were as always an absolute peach this weekend, people kept complementing you on what a good baby you are. We went down to the beach with you on Saturday. You sat under a spf 125 umbrella, and took naps, and just laid there all happy. You had blankets wrapped around you and the only thing exposed was your face, yet you were in the shade the whole time. But, somehow, your little fair skinned face got a little sunburn. Oh papa and I felt so horrible -- but you just continued to smile, and you slept as well as you always do -- even though you had a few blisters by your left eye when you woke up. Sunday we gave you a break from the outdoors and snuggled you in the house, well protected. Then, we decided to try it again Monday because ma and papa wanted to go and play frisbee in the ocean. We put up windbreaks, the umbrella, fully clothed you, put sunscreen on your face, and put blankets over you so you were in a little cave. not an inch of light touched you and you were happy to be sleeping next to the ocean and listening to the waves.

You continue to amaze us with your great disposition. Papa and mama have the most fun when you imitate us. We stick out our tongues and open our mouths and you follow suit. It is so fun to see you try and get your mouth in the open position. And you can't help but smile (and sometimes laugh) when you are doing it. I love to hear your little laugh -- you are quite a vocal little baby, often creating these throaty grunts, even in your sleep! And when you do go to sleep, you give s a certain chatter to tell us your ready then you just lay there with your eyes open until they get too heavy. You are such a good self-soother. We are so lucky!
