July and August
I went on summer blogger break. It's been a full two months with hardly a ray of sunshine. We can count on our hands the number of days it has been over 80 degrees in Olympia. We are staring down the end of August and for good reason I ask "where did summer go"?
July 4 Holiday
We spent the extended holiday week at the lake with tons of friends and family. Mom and Jim flew in from Scotland and stayed with us through the fourth. Molly also came up for the weekend. We were also joined on the fourth with friends from Olympia (Matt, Margo and Avery and the Rigg family - Annie, Kevin, Kaitlin and Jenna) and Seattle (Kate, Jeff, Hattie and Ruby). It was a fun day with lots of food and sunshine. You especially enjoyed the pool on the upper deck and I enjoyed that we could gate you in and you couldn't go anyplace.

Love Bug with Grandpa

You and your buddy, Hannah (which you call ga- ga)

Mama and Bee on the steps by the lake -- yes we are both pasty white from all that amazing Washington sun!
Rugg Family Reunion, Peck, Idaho
We spent the third weekend in July in Peck, Idaho getting to know Papa's extended family. It was hot hot hot and we were thankful for some actual sunshine. We cooled off in the local swimming hole and you loved it. The most exciting event for you for the weekend was watching Chicken Shit Bingo. I have photos to illustrate the simple rules to this rowdy game but am still hunting for them...so stay tuned everyone. You had your first popsicle thanks to Grandma Cox and got lots of loving from the Davis family. Again, pictures will follow shortly, as soon as I can find the little disk floating around here.
Seaside, Oregon
The last weekend we went down to Seaside, Oregon to enjoy the sand, sun and a bit o' wind with the Matheson clan. This has become a bi-annual event which we appreciate greatly. We thoroughly enjoy the company of our wonderful friends and Seaside is so super relaxing. you had a blast riding on the kids bikes all weekend. Up until then we couldn't get you to wear your bike helmet but when you say Elise, Celee and Cale with their helmets on you wouldn't take yours off. I guess you figured it was what all the cool kids do. We ended the weekend in Portland and then onto hood River where your sweet auntie watched you and the three boys while I had a meeting on the house I am designing in White Salmon.

Hanging with your posse while they blow bubbles.
Lake Time!
We spent 10 days at the floathouse on Coeur d'Alene Lake with your grandma and grandpa, 3 aunts, 5 niecces/nephews and your Sweet Cassie and Tanner and Alex. Needless to say it was a cabinfull but we all, as always had an amazing time. Somehow every year we get past the hundreds of bats that call the a-frame home (one actually landed on Aunt Molly's leg this year!), the absolute filth that resides in the corners and cabinets, the bat and mouse feces that luckily you never mistook for raisins, and all the other ugh's that we call cabin life. Our sweet cabin holds so many good memories, more of which were made this year.
Every morning starts with a run on the trail and either I take you in the stroller or your aunties rode you on my cruiser. Then we just played the rest of the day. My days of laying on the dock and reading magazines is clearly over. You kept me on my toes, every night I went to bed with Aunt Molly and you in the bat-free tent (becuase our first night upstairs was spent with five bats flying around) and told myself "you must be more vigilant tomorrow than you were today." You are at such an exploratory age and you are so curious. It did not take you long to figure out that all you had to do was to jiggle the screen door to unlatch the lock. then all the aunties would make a dive for you and the door -- you only found freedom twice - but not for more than a second or two.
You enjoyed the water, and mostly enjoyed watching all the kids goof off together. I enjoyed your nap time but your aunt ginny enjoyed it more because I told her that if you have a sleeping companion you'll sleep longer so she felt this was a good job for her to take on. You two slept so well together.

Auntie Molly loving on her wee one's

Mama and her awesome sisters

Bee and mama floating on the moose

Canoeing with grandma and grandpa

Auntie Ginny reads the bedtime story

Swimmin' in the hippo!
